About me

I work for Google, Inc. here in the Silicon Valley.

Aside from the whole job thing I also rock climb, ski, ride motorcycles and blog ;-) I grew up in Nashville, TN and in Lake Oswego, OR (go Lakers!). I have pretty much been spoiled my whole life by having interesting outdoor activities at my finger tips. In Tennessee I spent my summer playing in creeks and building forts in the woods near our house. Oregon offered plenty of fly fishing with my Dad and skiing with the rest of the family. Following high school I moved to southern California and attended a small liberal arts college and managed to get a degree in Economics of all things. This surprises most people when they find out, so don’t be alarmed. I did most of CS work at Harvey Mudd College and learned the actual valuable skills in the salt mines of the internet boom.

After a short stint in the consulting world, I joined IBM Research at the Almaden Research Center. I worked on WebFountain for about 4 years and then left for greener pastures. My research interests are in the field of information retrieval, but more specifically indexing, crawling and data mining.

Somewhere in all of this I attend classes at Stanford University and am working (slowly, but surely) towards my Master’s in Computer Science. I think eventually a Ph. D. might be in the mix, but for now a Master’s is stressful enough.
